So. This ‘cultural appropriation’ thing.
If I understand it correctly, it’s the belief that someone from a particular culture borrowing or copying ideas from another culture is somehow offensive.
Well, if that’s the case, the majority of you should get really upset every time you open your…
Are you serious right now.
Yes, English is a bastard language. But it’s also a dominant bastard language that has been unwillingly injected into several countries and forced upon many people who didn’t originally speak it. Interestingly enough, most of the English bastardization is from other European countries. Hmmmmm.
While it is true that cultures do change and evolve over time, much like languages and animal species, cultures have a right to keep their essence, much like how the basics of a language are kept over thousands of years, or how a bird is technically a dinosaur.
You cannot change the DNA of a bird, and it is extremely hard to get a language to shift at your will AND get people to use your shifted language, without force. Cultural appropriation is the forced adaptation of a culture to the dominant culture in a geographic area. It is thievery, it is forced, it is wrong.
Stop trying to defend it.
(I’m reading an article for English and was looking for cultural appropriation and came across this “beauty” of an OP. I shall post more about my thoughts on the actual article tomorrow.)
